#SOL18 – “I Don’t Need…”

“I don’t need you to ask me about my homework.”

“I was just trying to help you stay organized.”

“I don’t need to talk right now.”

“I was just making sure you were okay.”

“I don’t want to sit with the family and watch tv.”

“We didn’t get to see you much today.”

“I’m not hungry.”

“You need to eat and this is something that I can do for you.”

“I need to be alone.”

“I know, but I miss my little boy…”

(Some things that were said this week… last night we shopped for the week’s meals and hung out later that night to catch up. My guy was back, at least for a little while. I know he won’t always have this pre-teen angst, but I miss him when he does.)

  1. A wonderful format, the back-and-forth conversation between you and your son, to show us this pre-teen angst. I loe your close – the time you had together, He’s growing up! I enjoyed reading this, Aileen.

  2. You will get through this. You know how I know? Just reading your response to his statements, tells me that you are a compassionate listener. He gets it. Really.

  3. Your ‘conversation’ post is touching. My kids are adults now, so I can tell you from experience that your boy will be back, he’ll always need you, and you keep showing him you care even if you feel he’s pushing you away. He DOES need you and wants your concern and questions, as much now as when he was a toddler. Keep being his mom.
