A young man, searching for himself.
A young woman, searching for a home.
On leave, attending a dance.
Downtown, looking to unwind from a week of work.
Eyes meet – love at first sight?
Maybe just shy smiles and a polite dance.
Headed out in the morning.
Wishing for a way out.
Not much in common, even their language.
But the heart wants what it yearns for:
Fresh starts, new beginnings, hope for a future, burgeoning love.
This is beautiful, Aileen. The beginning lines, especially, reminded me of my in-laws. They also met during the war at a dance. Thanks for sharing this special tribute.
I know so many people that this applies to. Thanks for sharing, Aileen.
I too have parents that met at a dance! What a memory-filled poem.
“The heart want what it yearns for…” Perfect description. I really like this poem, Aileen. I can enter into the moment of their meeting. Lovely photo too.
